How Meditation Changes Us Practically: Lessons from Joshua 1:8

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of knowing there is more to your life, yet not really seeing it? What if the key to stepping into the life God has planned for you actually lies in what you speak and meditate on?

Meditation, as rooted in God's Word, has the power to transform your life by bridging the gap between where you are and where God is calling you to be. Let's explore how meditation on Scripture equips us for this journey, drawing insights from Joshua 1:8.

What Is Meditation?

In Joshua 1:8, God says:

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night."

Meditation here is more than reading or reflecting silently. It speaks of talking, and constant mulling over God's Word. It's an intentional practice of keeping His promises and instructions on your lips and heart.

How Can Meditation Bridge the Gap Between Your Present and God's Promises?

1. Meditation Automates Obedience

The verse goes on to say: ".that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it."

Meditating on God's Word rewires your heart, mind, and will to naturally align with His ways. Think about how spending time with someone causes you to adopt their habits or speech-it happens almost effortlessly.

As you reflect on Scripture, you take it in. It becomes a part of your inner being and character, and obedience to God's commands becomes your nature. His Word starts to order your decisions and choices to His will, without a lot of wrestling.

2. Meditation Activates the Fulfillment of Prophecy

Meditation builds faith, and faith is the foundation for seeing God’s promises fulfilled in your life. Romans 10:17 reminds us:

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”

As you continue to speak and hear His Word over and over again, it fastens your faith. Your focus changes from fear or negativity to His promises. Proverbs 18:20 supports this with *"From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things."

Meditation ensures that the words you speak and the thoughts you nurture align with God's plans for you, framing your reality according to His design.

3. Meditation Equips You for Stewardship

Meditating on Scripture doesn't just prepare you for blessings; it equips you to handle the blessing well. Proverbs 10:22 says:

"The blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow.

Waiting on God isn't passive; it's a time of preparation. Through meditation, you develop the wisdom, character, and capacity to steward the blessings God entrusts to you. It's in this intentional waiting rooted in His Word that you're equipped to receive and sustain His gifts without being overwhelmed by them.

Living a Life by Design

Meditation is more than a spiritual discipline-it's a bridge. It bridges the chaos of your current circumstances to the ordered, abundant life God has designed for you. By speaking His Word, dwelling on it, and letting it reshape your heart and mind, you align yourself with His promises.

Take the Next Step

If this resonates with you, consider making meditation a daily practice. Here's how to get started:

- Select a scripture that speaks to your current season.

- Speak it out loud numerous times a day, letting it settle into your heart.

- Reflect on how it applies to your life and allow it to guide your thoughts and actions.

I need you to look beyond what your life is today because there is more room for growth, for becoming a whole transformation. The moment you decide to make meditation on God's word a daily thing you can begin to finally dream with God because your life is much more than the depth you see now.

I hope you slowly but surely come into the life meant for you, I hope you keep going on even when all else seems tough, I pray you let your life be bigger than what you imagine, and I pray you begin to dream again with God.
